The 2016 Honda Civic Type R is Finally Here & It's Awesome

Car guys all over the world have been waiting years for the release of the next generation Honda Civic Type R, and it was finally released at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

2016 Honda Civic Type R Engine Spec

Getting straight to the point; under the bonnet there is a 2.0-litre VTEC turbocharged engine that creates 306bhp at 6,5000rpm and 400nm of torque. Yes, this is just what we wanted. All that power will go through a six-speed manual gearbox to the front wheels. Meaning the car will get from 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds and do a top speed of 167mph.

Type R Nurburgring Stats

To really hammer these stats home the Civic Type R has lapped the Nurburgring in a very fast 7 mins and 50 seconds. The previous lap record holder was the Renaulsport Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R, but the Type R beat that record by around 4 seconds.

Introducing +R mode

If you like gadgets, then you will be pleased to hear that Honda have introduced a +R mode. This is a button on the dashboard that gives the Civic a more aggressive torque map, reduces the steering assistance to enable a better handling feel, and stiffens all 4 dampers. The +R mode button converts the Honda Civic Type R into a pure racing machine. Brilliant!

New Body Styling

The Type R has never looked so aggressive. Looking at the car it looks like a modified track car, and that isn’t a bad thing. There is a wide front splitter, side skirts, a sharp rear diffuser, and a huge rear wing.

Exciting New Wheels and Brakes

The car comes with a nice set of 19″ alloy wheels with a very skinny 35 profile. Inside those alloys are Brembo brakes with 350mm cross drilled front rotors using four-pot callipers.

Race Ready Interior

Inside the car it still looks very track ready, it has sports seats coated in suede effect cloth with lots of red double stitching, which helps liven things up a lot. One of my favourite features of the interior is this leather trimmed steering wheel that you can see below.

How Much Will It Cost Me?

So to get your hands on one you need to hand over £29,995 in its base form and if you want a premium version there is a GT model that includes a front and rear parking system, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, electric folding mirrors, Garmin Sat Nav, a premium eight speaker, 320 watt stereo system, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting. The GT model gets a fair bit of extra kit but will cost £32,295, I think it would be worth it. Hopefully we can get hold of them in the UK from July 2015.
