Follow a McLaren P1 around the Circuit of the Americas

Here is a great bit of footage shot from a 2015 Corvette Z06 pursuing a McLaren P1 around the famous Circuit of the Americas race track. The P1 hypercar has 903bhp and will do 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds. The immense speed of this car will blow your mind.

The Corvette camera has 650bhp from a v8 engine and can d0 0-60mph in less than 3 seconds also. The Corvette is hugely fast but the P1 is just an insanely powerful machine.  Watch the P1 disappear in the video below and let us know what you think?

Before the Test Drive - Hyundai i10 SE

With a pending test drive of the Hyundai i10 SE here are my thoughts about the car before getting behind the wheel.

What is the Hyundai i10 all about?

The Hyundai i10 is the entry level Hyundai starting at £8,595. This city car has lots of big car features packed into the brands smallest model. The i10 comes in 6 variants the S, S Air, SE, SE Blue Drive, Premium, and Premium SE. There is a choice of two engines, the 1.0-litre 66bhp or 1.2-litre 87bhp. The 1.2-litre come with either a manual or automatic gearbox.

Hyundai i10 2

The model we have on test is the SE, this has a few extra features over the standard model such as remote central locking and electric rear windows. It has the 1.0-litre petrol 3 cylinder engine. This i10 uses a manual gearbox that will get the car from 0-60mph in 14.9 seconds and do a top speed of 96mph. It’s clear that the 1.0-litre i10 was built for fuel efficiency; the combined economy figures for this car is a whopping 60mpg.

The styling on this i10 has been much improved from its previous generations. It may have taken Hyundai a while to get the styling of the i10 sorted, but now the i10 looks like a whole new car. Great job.

Also, the i10 claims to have the biggest boot in its class, beating the Volkswagen Up, so it’s also pretty practical for a small car.

Expectations – Hyundai i10 SE

Just because the i10 is a super efficient low cost city car doesn’t mean that it won’t be fun to drive. I expect that the Hyundai i10 will feel lots faster and more fun to drive than most people would predict based on the cars engine performance figures. I expect a responsive and dynamic driving experience once I’m behind the wheel.

Hyundai i10 SE

Knowing that the SE model is still priced under £10,000; I know the interior won’t be total luxury, but I still expect the touch points of the car to feel nice and I am hopeful that the interior is interesting to look at and feels roomy.

Hyundai i10 1

With the big styling improvements to the car I look forward to seeing it for the first time and will want to feel happy being seen in a car that is super efficient, affordable, and hopefully pretty stylish.

Lets see what I think once I’ve had my time behind the wheel.

Hero Worship - The Peugeot 205 GTI

Meet your Hero!

People say never meet your heroes, you’ll only be disappointed. Well I disagree with this. Whilst out shooting a feature car for Motor Verso recently, I bumped into one of my heroes and I certainly wasn’t disappointed! Now, there are a lot of people out there who will be looking at these pictures and thinking ‘what a piece of old junk’ and then there are the ‘proper’ people out there who are drooling over their keyboards full of adolescent passion as this little baby is one of the cars of their dreams!

Urban Location

Back to the evening in question though and we were on the lookout for a nice, trendy, urban location, and buried in the heart of Birmingham’s creative area, Digbeth, is the Custard Factory. The former home of Bird’s Custard, it is a hodge-podge of factory spaces converted into cool studio spaces, bars, cafes and ultra-cool shops. A perfect space to shoot a little city car that would be devoured by spectacle wearing, bearded hipster types.

Mint Peugeot 205 GTI

Well, maybe not as it turns out. As we drove past a blind corner, editor Paul smirked ‘there’s one from your era’ expecting to see an unattractive lady of of advancing years, I was amazed to see one of my boyhood hot hatch heroes in pretty decent shape. Needless to say, I pretty much instantly ditched any professionalism in trying to get shots of the young trendy city car and made a b-line for the little 205 GTI.

What’s the Appeal?

I will be the first to admit that this is not the most incredible car ever made but it is, for me (and if you’ve read this far, probably you too) one of the most desirable. So what is the appeal of this little ageing hatchback? Why is it still so appealing today and why is it so cool that it would find itself in hipster-central and not look out of place?

Pug 205 GTI (7)

I recently attended the auto sport international event at which, the centre-piece was the all conquering Ferrari ‘LaFerrari’ a car that is so technically advanced and generally unbelievable that you need to be a quantum mechanic just to get your head around the thing. Parked next to it, was a mint condition 205 GTI that had no right to even be sat in the shadow of his lordship. Yet, the plucky little pug was getting equal amounts of attention.

Pug 205 GTI (18)

The fact is that those of us of a certain age and even a lot of younger car enthusiasts love an underdog, we love a car that is really good at what it does and we love something that we could actually, realistically own and use! Let’s be honest, I doubt any of us will ever own a ‘La-F’ and if we did, it would be wrapped in so much cotton wool that it would barely see the light of day. Where as the little 205 could pretty easily be used as a daily drive and still give us just as much entertainment.

Pug 205 GTI (16)

So what makes it so special? It’s a true working class hero! It’s an affordable classic that is still highly desirable by the young, old, car geek, hipster or that simply know a thing or two about cars. There is no doubt that the 205 GTI is right up there in my top ten cars of all times and it is a shame that as the years go by, they will become a rarer sight on the road, but to those owners out there that still drive, care for and enjoy their little bit of motoring history, I salute you!

Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC SR Manual 7 Day Diary

Here are my thoughts on the Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC SR after my week-long test drive.

Day 1 – Honda Civic Tourer First Impressions

Taking a look at the Honda Civic Tourer for the first time was quite a treat, and I’d go so far to say that I prefer it to the hatchback. This face-lift model has the same improvements as the hatch, including the piano black gloss trim over the front bumper, darker wheel-arch garnishes and newly designed alloy wheels.

Inside the car, at first glance, it looks like there is quite a lot going on, but after about 10 minutes you soon settle in to understand what everything does.

 Day 2 – Killer Traffic

Unfortunately I got caught in some killer traffic on my second day with the car. But sitting in the Civic Tourer wasn’t too bad to be fair, and it gave me the opportunity to mess with all the settings too. Most of the buttons inside the car are chunky, clicky, and feel very durable, which I would like to think means they’ll last. The infotainment system has a fair few options on it, which could take some time to get used to.

Honda Civic Tourer (39)

Driving the car through traffic, the stop/start technology is quick to cut in and will save you money when you don’t need the engine running, which is always great news. As soon as you are in neutral with your foot off the clutch the car will turn itself off, and once you depress the clutch, the car will fire up again. The gearing works well with the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine, even with 120bhp it still seems to power the car along at super low revs.

Ross and I took the car out in the evening to shoot it in a dark urban environment. You can see some of the places we visited in the video below.

Day 3 – Motorway Monster

I took the Honda Civic Tourer on an epic 260 mile, 6 hour, round trip to collect some Range Rover tyres. In one evening I learnt more about the car than I think you could do in a week. Here are a couple of things I picked up;

MPG – On my trip I encountered lots of traffic and also 40mph restricted passages of the motorway, due to roadworks, but I still managed to return an average of 62mpg. This was without really trying too hard to conserve fuel as well. I was very impressed with the economy of this car, I knew the 1.6 i-DTEC was going to be good, but I had no idea it was this good.

Honda Civic Tourer (12)

Adaptive Damper System - Going mile after mile on the motorway I had plenty of time to test out the different modes on the Adaptive Damper System – dynamic, normal and comfort. You can tell the difference instantly when you swap between the modes. In dynamic the car feels more rigid and stiffer on the road, and in comfort the car absorbs the bumps nicely, but does tend to bounce when you go over a large bump. Normal mode, as you would expect sits between the two. On the motorway the comfort setting was my preference, but I could see why you may want the other options on more demanding roads.

Honda Civic Tourer (43)

Boot Load Space – The boot is huge. Once I arrived to collect my tyres I dropped the rear two seats flat in a matter of seconds, removed the parcel shelf easily, and I was all set. In went 4 large 20″ tyres and there was still some space left over, for a compact estate car you really don’t need more room than this.

Take a look at the time-lapse of the return journey below.

Day 4 – What do others think of it?

Off out with some friends for the evening and I was designated driver, so took the Civic Tourer; I enjoy hearing other people’s thoughts on the cars I have on test and this was the perfect opportunity. The 2-tier dashboard design was a hit; everyone really seemed to like this look, which you get in both the Tourer and the hatchback. There were also lots of comments on the overall exterior design, and for an everyday economical car it’s not a bad looking motor.

Honda Civic Tourer (55)

Day 5 – Late Night Comfortable Car

Friday I didn’t get to spend as much time in the car as I would have liked, but I did get to take a very rainy trip across town late at night in the Tourer. 5 days in and I have warmed to the car; I like all the practicalities of the car, and although it’s not fast, and it’s not super exciting to drive, it is good at doing all the necessary and required things really well. In the real world, when we have constant traffic, terrible weather, and high fuel prices sometimes you want a car that is warm, comfortable and economical. The Civic Tourer in the SR spec and with the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine really hits the nail on the head with its comfy heated seats and high MPG engine. It just feels right for everyday use.

Day 6 – Great Infotainment System

The infotainment system is a big feature for me, and I would imagine for anyone that spends a lot of time in the car too. The Civic Tourer’s base sound system is actually pretty good, the sound is loud and of great quality, and there are a couple of ways to connect your phone or MP3 player, making it easy to listen to what you want; it’s a great system. Being completely honest it did take me a while to figure out what all the buttons and menu options do on the infotainment system, but after a day or so I quite liked it.

Day 7 – Photoshoot Time

As with all cars we review, myself and Ross Jukes try and get the best possible pictures of the car to show the car through our eyes. We had an early start on a stereotypical British grey and miserable day to shoot the Honda Civic.

Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC SR

We took the car to a scouted rural area to get some nice shots in a country environment, we then moved into a small town to get a bit more of an urban look. We took some great pictures and video, well we think their pretty good anyway, take a look;

I was certainly sad to see this car go back, and it got me thinking about the possibilities of a Honda Civic Tourer Type R…maybe one day.

700BHP E30 BMW M3 vs Bi-Turbo Lamborghini Gallardo

Watch the 2016 Audi R8 go Around the Ascari Track Sideways

Recently a selection of lucky motoring journalists got the opportunity to go to the Ascari race track in Spain for a co-drive in the latest and greatest R8.

Lamborghini Components

The Audi R8, as ever, shares its components with Lamborghini, more specifically the new Lamborghini Huracan. The 2016 R8 will be sold as a 4-wheel drive V10 Model with a double clutch gearbox. There will not be a manual gearbox; and we’re not sure yet if there will be a v8 engine available in the future.

V10 or the V10 Plus?

From day one there will be 2 variants available the V10 and the V10 Plus. The Plus model has a fixed rear wing looking similar to the one used on the R8 GT. The demonstrated model was in camoflage, so we may see more improvements to the exterior of the car when it is released at the Geneva motor show in March.

2015 Audi R8 (3)

0-60mph in 3.2 Seconds

The V10 engine will be a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated engine with 540bhp. The V10 Plus will get the same size engine but a few tweaks to get 610bhp from it. This means that the plus model will get from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds. We can’t wait to see this car first hand.

What Does the World’s Most Expensive Aftermarket Exhaust Sound Like?

Quicksilver Exhaust Systems in the UK have developed a custom aftermarket exhaust for the Bugatti Veyron; more specifically the Grand Sport Vitesse.  We don’t actually know how much the exhaust system will cost to buy, but we have been told it is the most expensive one in the world and also the only one available for a Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. Surely the original one must have been the best option in the first place anyway, right?

World’s Most Expensive Aftermarket Exhaust

The exhaust itself has been built entirely of titanium which may be the reason why it was so expensive. The Bugatti Veyron is powered by an 8.0-litre quad turbo, W16 beast of an engine that creates 1,200bhp. 0-60mph comes around in 2.6 seconds and will go all the way up to a top speed of 255 mph. I wonder how Quicksilver’s exhaust effects these figures.

What do you think of the sound?
