'Holy Cow Batfans!' original Batmobile up for grabs

Cruise in the Caped-crusader’s car

You heard right my little bat-buddy’s, the first officially licensed Batmobile is being sold by Heritage Auctions and the starting bid stands at $90,000. Bargain!

Developed by Forrest Robinson with his friend Len Perham, the first Batmobile is based on a 1956 Oldsmobile 88 but has received an entirely different body with pocket sliding doors, a bat-nose front and the familiar dorsal fin. Robinson even used the car as his own daily ride (albeit in Silver) before the DC Comic Book Company later bought the car and put it back to it’s original bat-colours! It’s a bit of a beast too at 5181mm long and 2108mm wide and was built between 1960 and 1963 so it was completed three years before the 1966 Barris Batmobile.

Holy rusty metal Batman!

Forrest eventually sold the car for $200 as he needed the money to start a fabricating business and several years later the vehicle was abandoned in a New Hampshire field and stayed there for more than 40 years. After being found and sold several times, last year it was acquired by Toy Car Exchange LLC who shipped it to Sacramento where Borbon Fabrications was in charge of restoring it to a pristine condition. Any takers?
